Bitch is the New Black by Helena Andrews

The title of the book was taken from a Saturday Night Live sketch and writer Helena Andrews shows us just how “bitchy” her life gets. The book is a collection of essays that trail her tumultuous upbringing all the way to her career as a writer. She shares with us the trials of dating and finding someone to really love her, not just share her bed.
Though the book was just released this past summer, it has captured the attention of Shonda Rhimes, creator of Grey’s Anatomy. She has optioned the book’s film rights! Look out for a SistaGirlz version of Sex in the City in the near future. If you’re anything like me, you’ll want to read the book first, so you can see what they left in/cut out from the book!

You know I was intrigued when I saw the title “Sistergirl Devotions” I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that the subtitle was “Keeping Jesus in the on the Job”. We all know how challenging it can be to keep the faith in the midst of DRAMA on the j.o.b. I’ve even had experiences that almost made me “lose my religion” at my place of employment, but with books like these, we can stay on the straight and narrow, with our eyes on the prize!
Author Carol M. Mackey is the Editor in Chief of Black Expressions Book Club, and she give is to us straight on how a Christian woman can be inspired “even though”… She covers topics that affect all women, no matter what your spiritual beliefs. Standing up for what’s right, managing other, and how to have a healthy work -life balance are just a few of the topics that stuck out for me.
Keep this devotional in your desk drawer and bring it out as needed!
