Sleep Your Way to the Top!

How many hours of sleep do you get per night, SistaGirlz? I know I average anywhere from 4-6. Did you know that we’re supposed to get at least eight hours of sleep per night? I find that very unrealistic in many of our lives. However, an unrealistic as it may seem we may actually need to rethink our sleeping habits. Lack of sleep can make us grumpy (you know you don’t need that attitude, SistaGirl), it affects our decision making abilities and it could affect your next promotion!

Making bad decisions on the job directly affects your paycheck! If you think working longer hours will make you look good to the boss, you’re wrong. In many cases it makes you look like you have lack of time management. Really, what are you spending your day doing? A good night’s sleep can leave you refreshed and ready to tackle the day with your best mindset!

When you are sleep deprived, your cortisol rises — and so do all its harmful effects, including brain damage and dementia, weight gain, diabetes, heart attacks, high blood pressure, depression, osteoporosis, depressed immunity, etc.

So turn off the TV, the Will and Grace re-runs can wait. As a matter of fact go them on DVD and watch them at your leisure. Curl up and get some zzzz’s.

Sleep tips:

* Eat no later than three hours prior to going to bed

*  Stretch out before you go to bed

* Stay away from alcohol and caffeine
