Let’s Get It in for 2010* Complete the Task!

We are taking steps into a brand new year AND a brand new decade! If you know me, you know that I am  always inspired by the change in seasons, and even more by an unchartered year. Around the last week in the year I start planning and dreaming of things I want to accomplish for the next year. Some of those dreams are recycled, I’ll admit to it. But you can’t fault a SistaGirl for dreamin’ ! Or can you?

I’ve begun to notice how I have a habit of dreaming and getting amped up about X (fill in the blank for your own X), and by the time the chill has worn off  the New York air, I am on to the next thing. It’s no secret my life has been filled with many stops and starts, sputters and kicks, with hardly any completions.  When I told my mom I was getting that I was gonna really go for my Life Coach Certification, my words were met with a skeptical “Ooookayyy, Deja”. Isn’t it the worst when you own mom knows you are “The Girl Who Cried Goal”? LOL!

Despite the critics, I am STILL pressin’ on with my goals, resolutions and ambitions! Inspired by @skinnyjeans on Twitter, I have decided to have a THEME for the YEAR in addition to my normal resolutions. This year I am striving to not only START new things, but to Complete The Task! Yes, I will be reaching back to tie up those loose ends of yesteryear’s goals and working on new things for this  year. No matter what, I will Complete The Task! What will be your theme this year? SistaGirlz let’s strut into this decade with our heads held high, hand on our hip and with steps on the path to success!

Alicia’s New House, Rihann’s Tell-All & More!

Looks like the New Year will bring about new digs for R&B star Alicia Keys and her producer boyfriend, Swizz Beatz.  Sources claim the couple have been looking into purchasing a condo on New York’s East End Avenue.  The Penthouse duplex is rumored to be 3 bedrooms with fireplaces and ceiling to floor windows throughout. And of course a gym. Yep, they can get their work out on and then check out the latest flicks in a personal viewing room. It goes for roughly $12 million.

I’m happy for them, I truly am.  But when is that divorce gonna be finalized Swizzy? I’m just asking.

Vivica Foxx has been touched by angel, the photographer Derek Blanks.  She took on the popular alter ego shoot and became an angel and a vampire. Thoughts?

When I dated “Curtis”, I met him as “Curtis” he just happened to be a rap star. We went out too fast, we were very excited about each other and wanted to scream at the top of our lungs “I’m in Love”. Then people got in his ear and we unfortunately broke up. Then there was albums and songs and statements that I will say a young man made but now he has grown up….and he came to me as a man and said “I’m sorry”..and I forgave him. That was hard. And I was so glad I had a wonderful family, especially my daddy who said “He didn’t make you and he sure ain’t gonna break you”.

Rihanna performed in Dubai for New Year’s Eve for $500,000. Seems pretty low considering other celebs were snagging millions to rock out the first decade of the New Millennium.  Maybe she plans to recoup that money by putting out a book. SistaGirlz have heard  that the Bajan beauty will release a 144 page book called “The Last Girl on Earth”. Not sure what it’s about, but it will cost ya to find out. The tome is set to retail at $50. Wowzers!

Get Your Walk On with Hi-Tech Fitness!

Hey SistaGirl! Go take a walk! No, really,  take a walk. While you’re at it get physical with these Hi-Tech gadgets just in time for the new year!

Ipod Nano now has a built in pedometer that will count your steps and calories as you jam to Lady Gaga and Beyonce! The Ipod Sport Kit is an additional feature and that means additional $$, but it’s well worth the investment to get your move on!

Nike is running it when in the shoe game and now they have expanded further into the fitness field with their Nike + Sports Band. With just a glance you can get all of your stats: calories burned, pace, etc.  Plus you can upload data online and tweet your results! This cool watch comes is funky colors for the adventurous SistaGirlz and will hit your pockets for a cool $59.

And for those of us that are budget conscious but still want to keep tally on our steps, Omron comes to our rescue! While it may not be as sleek as some of the aforementioned items, the Omron Pedometer that can be carried in your bag or pocket and counts calories as well as steps.  Based on various reviews, it measures pretty accurately. I’d say that is a great deal for only $20.

Whether you invest in these gadget or not, get moving! 10,000 steps a day is roughly 5 miles. Make a goal for a certain amount of steps in one day and share your success stories with us!

Beautiful Black Successful…& Single!

This ABC  News interview came just before the holidays, while lots of us were vacationing and spending time with family. I didn’t hear about it until after it aired, but I could relate to the women in this interview. Although I recently became engaged, I was single for 8yrs before I met my fiance. I cried occasionally because I was lonely and angry  about the fact that most of the men I wanted were interested in women of other races and younger ages. I am not old, by far, but I’m not 22 either. My standards were high, so I lowered them. Even then, the quality of man that I wanted was NOT present until I happened upon blind date, set up by a female colleague.

As I continued in the relationship, I would always tell my then boyfriend that he was holding the Black race on his shoulders.  If our relationship didn’t work, then I was opening my ethnicity options and not looking back.  I felt that if Black men didn’t want us (Black women), then why should I limit myself?

I asked a few of my guy friends why they didn’t go after Black women like they used to and more than one told me ” we have too much mouth”. Really, fellas? Are we supposed to be weak and subservient? It hurt to hear those answers; to realize we have never been the “it” girls in society. But I find solace in knowing who I am. Happy & successful with or without a man. SistaGirlz, open your  options and while still holding the candle for the brothers, remember love knows no color.

Keyshia Cole and Daniel “Boobie” Gibson got engaged over the New Year! He popped the question with a 9 carat, $800,000 ring! You go Keyshia!  Her future hubby is a player for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Former America’s Next Top Model finalist Nik Pace has finally served her BabyDaddy Braylon Edwards with child support papers. She is requesting $70,000 per month in support. Wow! She’s going for the jugular in this one!

As a player for the NY, Braylon makes about $5 million per year, and Nik is vowing to come up on this situation! Now I’m all for supporting your kids, but really, Nik? $70,000 per MONTH? Get real, SistaGirl. That’s just WRONG! **Diddy doesn’t even pay that much to his BabyMamas and he makes 100 times more money!***

And the worst marital offender in history, Tiger Woods, is gracing the cover of Vanity Fair Magazine. These are OLD pics of Tiger; ones they weren’t even gonna use, but they pulled them out in the midst of his personal drama. Tsk Tsk. Anyhoo, I hear his wife Elin got a lovely $300 million gift from Tiger during the holidays.
