ursulaburnsWith the year 2009, we ushered in a new wave of hope for our country. The January inauguration of our first African American President made the hoi polloi feel as though anything were possible. Well, half way through the year we still feel like it’s “out turn”.

This summer, Ursula Burns becomes the first Black women to ever lead a Fortune 500 Company.  Burns worked her way up the ladder of Xerox, starting as a summer engineering intern in 1980 and by 2002 she was President of the company. As CEO she will continue to foster the overseas relationships she built as president to keep Xerox the world’s largest maker of high speed color printers.

Sonia Sotomayor is also a woman on the move! This SistaGirl ranked at the top of her Princeton graduating class, edited The Yale Law Journal, and eventually moved her way up to the Southern District Court of New York.  soniasotomayor2

On May 26th President Barack Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to be the next Supreme Court judge.  Though she faces oppostion from the Republicans, Mrs. Sotomayors nomination as the first Latino Supreme Court candidate is historical.  My Boricua friends were Facebooking and Twitter ing about the move. It was a proud day for the Hispanica community. I can’t wait until the confirmation. Let’s speak it into existence!
