How Frugal Are You?

Since the hot topic is the economy and the recession, folks are really beginning to hunker down (i like that word, hunker) and focus on saving money any way they can. People are beginning to use their creativity to recycle different products, and make their own all in an effort to keep their pennies close to the chest.
Hydrogen Peroxide has been around for years. My main experience with it has been applying to knee scrapes I received after a fall from my 3 speed bike back in the day. I had a dalliance with HP back when I use to let me home girl put those Cream of Nature box perms in my hair, but that’s a whole other story! Nowadays it seems there are new uses for this weak acid. Yeah, it’s an acid!
Would you use Hydrogen Peroxided on your tooth brush? Folks are doing just that, rather than purchasing a new one. Or instead of the pricey disenfectant you can us the good ol’ HP on those counters. Oh and if you’ve run out of Clorox, please believe Hydrogen Peroxide will add a little brightness to your whites! Interesting uses, right? But I’m still stuck on HP on my toothbrush! Hmmm.
I’ll have to think long and hard about that one.
Meanwhile, if you are really adventurous, you might be in the market for making your own deodorant! I would not advise this for those prone to “body odors even Secret can’t stop”! But it you’re brave enough to deal with folks moving three seats away from you on the subway if it doesn’t work, then by all means reach in your kitchen cabinets and stir up a batch!
You will need baking soda, cornstarch, tea tree oil and a shortening (I would not recommend Crisco in this case!). Coconut oil should be the shortening and after you is the whole thing together, mash the paste into an old deodorant stick and let it sit for a day. Just make sure I’m not around on the day you first test it out!
As for me, I think I will slowly progress in my frugality. I mean, after all, I’m a diva. It takes baby steps. I think I might try to re-use the Ziplock baggies. Like I said, baby steps.
